Kara M. Simonton

MSN, APRN, CNM, WHNP

Kara earned her WHNP and CNM degrees at Georgetown University. Kara has a passion for women’s health and is excited to bring this women’s health model of care to the community. Kara loves gynecology, labor and birth and she looks forward to supporting you by giving you the healthcare experience that you have always wanted. Kara manages the team and ensures all of the providers are working together to help support your health goals.

  • Kara’s first child Nola Gray was born in 2015. It was during that time that she became passionate about women’s health. The disconnect that she felt throughout the entire prenatal experience was overwhelming and alarming. She walked out of the hospital with a newborn and a mission to create change in women’s health space.

Her health and prenatal care with the mainstream medical system was the opposite of what she was looking to provide. She found that sitting in waiting rooms for extended periods, not having enough time to ask questions, waiting days for a return call, and being dismissed over concerns was not acceptable. She realized quickly that the connection and relationship that midwifery care offered was exactly the type of care that she wanted to give to women and their families.

She spent the next six and a half years dedicated to becoming a nurse midwife. Throughout that time, she was able to experience a different type of prenatal and birth care from a provider that offered options and respected choice. Kara went on to have a VBAC that allowed her to see the prenatal and birth course through a different lens. While in nursing school, Kara became a certified doula to stay connected to the community that she would eventually serve. Her time as a doula was invaluable. By gaining a better understanding of what her clients’ impressions were of their healthcare and receiving their feedback on what they would do to make the health and prenatal experience exceptional, she was able to shape the foundation of her practice and tailor the care that she provides today.

Kara received her undergraduate degree from Ole Miss and her second bachelor’s degree in nursing from Baylor University. She is a graduate of Georgetown University where she graduated with honors, and she is double board certified as a women’s health nurse practitioner (WHNP) and as a certified nurse-midwife (CNM).

Meghan Kaney-Francis

MSN, APRN, CNM

Meghan graduated from Frontier Nursing University in 2018 and has been serving families in the DFW community as a hospital based CNM since then. Meghan strives to give every client the experience they desire and loves building relationships with her clients. Meghan looks forward to providing a foundation for lifelong women’s health and is excited to support all of our clients.

  • To have Meghan’s son Jack tell the story, she gave birth to his little brother Wilder on the toilet! Not entirely inaccurate, but to paint the fuller picture, Meghan was at home, comfortable, and free to move about in her labor process as needed – which yes, ultimately landed her in the bathroom! Meghan recalls feeling supported, empowered, and calm under the care and guidance of her midwife, which was a stark contrast to how she’d felt birthing each of her older daughters, Brooklyn and London, in-hospital.

Historically, Meghan has been at ease in hospitals. She began her nursing career in the emergency room and leaned into the fast-paced, unpredictable rhythms of triage and crisis management for over a decade. From East-Coast Maryland to West-Coast Washington, down to the Lone Star State, she’s served diverse populations and families and readily gains respect among colleagues for treating all patients with the compassion and dignity they deserve.

When Meghan became the patient herself as an expecting mother, it was jarring for her to discover that the hospital didn’t feel like such a friendly place anymore. As many expecting mothers do, Meghan desired a tight circle of trust and communication within her healthcare team. She needed to feel heard and regarded as an individual—not just as a mechanical body operating in accordance with textbook timetables or inflexible protocol. Meghan found the expertise, security, and humanity she desired in a midwifery-led model of care and became inspired to offer other women the same personalized, skilled support.

Meghan pursued a Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University while growing her skills as a birth assistant at Lovers Lane Birth Center in Richardson. In 2018, at 39-weeks pregnant with baby #4—the infamous toilet delivery—Meghan sat for her boards and accomplished her fortuitous dream of becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife.

Meghan values relationship-building as an integral and most enjoyable part of her job. (Catching tiny adorable babies is quite rewarding as well!) Meghan aims to create safe space for self-determination, vulnerability, and any number of questions you’ve ever wished to ask about the perinatal process and well-woman healthcare needs. Pregnancy and new motherhood are inherently anxiety-inducing times, but having choice and voice along the way can help preserve your sense of personal control.
